Claim: Government Sources in India: The discharge levels at Chenab (Akhnoor), Tawi (Jammu), Sutlej (Ferozepur), and Ravi (Madhopur) are presently well below the prescribed thresholds for extraordinary discharge/high flood. Accordingly, no communication has been made to Pakistan. Under Article IV(8) of the Indus Waters Treaty, flood information is required to be shared only in respect of extraordinary discharges/flood flows that may affect the other Party. Following the decision to place the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance in April 2025, India is under no obligation to share any information under the Treaty. Nevertheless, on humanitarian grounds, India has continued to communicate information on extraordinary flood events whenever such situations have arisen. Flood communication has been restricted to extraordinary discharges from the terminal sites on the Chenab, Tawi, Ravi, and Sutlej. The treaty prescribes no threshold values for extraordinary discharges, the same has been taken from commission practice. Accordingly, 23 flood warnings were communicated to Pakistan during the 2025 flood season through the High Commission of India. The same arrangement is being followed in 2026. As the present discharge levels are below the prescribed thresholds, no communication has been required.
